The PBAM Rebound Vol. 6
by Jake Maguigad
The last time I wrote and released something for the website was after the PBA LEGENDS exhibition game of March 29, 2014. After 2 years, thought I try writing again. This piece is not intended to make waves, just a ripple perhaps.
PROFILE OF A PBAM OFFICER
(Especially those managing the PBAM bread and butter WINTER BASKETBALL LEAGUE)
He is loyal and relentless to a cause, persevering, gutsy. a person who can brush off the hurt of verbal abuse and insults from the gutless, much maligned but resilient and tolerant.
He is part of that magnificent group who give up prized weekends, to be at the gym, lugging equipment, setting up scorers tables and chairs, benches and rolling out carpeting. They are those who render quasi – servitude of picking up empty bottles, diapers, candy wrappers, wiping spillage, sweeping crushed chips, pop corn etc. They take this dauntless, thankless task unflinching and without complaint. For what? For Community, youth and because it is part of the territory of pure volunteerism.
Administering the PBAM and managing the Winter Basketball League is where angels fear to tread. It is not a bed of roses or a rose garden. It is not for the faint of heart, the lazy or the dead – beat, not for talkers but for doers, for people who can connect and interact. And it is not a vehicle to hitch on for an ego trip or to enhance personal glory.
Fact, fiction or pure exaggeration? Truth be told, been there, done that, got it, lock, stock and barrel since the formation of the Philippine Youth Conference.
To paraphrase Manuel Luis Quezon, the 1st President of the Philippines. who stated “Rather a Philippines run like hell by Filipinos than a Philippines run like heaven by Americans” …
Rather a PBAM run like hell by dedicated, reliable loyal men (semper fi) than like heaven by Demigods and headstrong itinerants (rolling stone)
Until I can think of something to write about, Stay well all.
