SUMMER LEAGUE 2018: A DONE DEAL

by Jake Maguigad

Sunday, August 19 was curtains for the 2018 PBAM METRO SUMMER LEAGUE. A Montreal Filipino summer would not be complete without this sports summer activity, regular since 2001.

Choreographed by Dhab Mayuga, a League constant, and backed up by the quartet of Aaron Poonin, Mel Natividad, Boni Lingon and Cholo Maguigad, the Metro called it a summer with a 3 game Finale.

In the Kumakana spectacle, Tanjo Narciso‘s AK Classics outmuscled, out-hustled, outwitted and outscored the Golden Wings with a decisive 66-53 clipping. This overshadowed the 23 point output of the Wing‘s Vince.

MVP: Ramses Perez

Kumakana Champions – AK Classics

Kumakana Runner-Up – Golden Wings

In the Parehas match-up. Peter de la Paz‘ heroics in the dying seconds of the game gave Run CDN a 68-65 speaker over Glen Suan and the Gen X. The Run CDN win heralded the first Championship of Xavier Zamora’s Club in a PBAM League.

MVP: Peter de la Paz

Parehas Champions – Run CDN

Parehas Runner-Up – Gen X

In Sikat Finals, the Chosen Gen, with Marc Pajo and Zee de Guzman, made a game out of it early in the half with 9-4, 16-12, 18-14 leads. Did not stay. Llamados‘ deep bench and Sobey Sultan‘s irrepressible perimeter shooting was too tough for Chosen Gen perimeter defenders to handle. Wily Pescador‘s elite team broke the game wide open, walking away 97 – 73 for the Title.

MVP: Sobey Sultan who finished with a game high 33, 8 of threes.

Sikat Champions – Llamados

Sikat Runner-Up – Chosen Gen
