The PBAM Rebound Vol. 15

SUMMER HOMESTRETCH 2018

by Jake Maguigad

It’s been a hot summer so far, 27c a normal. But not a deterent for PBAM activities.

Summer started with the 15 team Teen Cagers – Master Challenge. Next came the Multi-pals, an exercise of joy and fun of the game. And what counts, establish multi cultural rapport. Pitching in were Karim Ladicani of the West Island Lakers, Nathaniel Dinku of Jeunesse CDN, Shawn Browne of SB Summer Basketball Camp and the PBAM.

Part and parcel of PBAM Summer activity is the Metro Summer League, running on to its 17th year.

Include this the tedious preparation for the PIBNA.

The 12 team Metro Summer League finished off it’s play-offs the weekend, August 11-12.

The Results:

The Golden Eagles, soaring high on the 18 point performances of Jomel and Vince absorbed the 27 point splurge by Casio to beat Tharub, 76-71.

AK vanquished a young Banna team, 67-54 for the right to meet Golden Eagles for the PAREHAS title.

RUN CDN really ran away with a 95-62 trouncing of another young team GIG.

Glen Suan‘s Gen X shifted to high gear with a 68-48 shellacking of Jho Driving.

Run CDN and Gen X will contest the KUMAKANA title.

A cool and collected Chosen Gen crew, behind the collected and cool generalship of Zee de Guzman, overhauled a 17 point halftime deficit, 43-26, to eke out a 77-75 squeaker over PAAWIS Youth.

It was a game of smarts and composure, of box outs and put-backs, of unforced errors and breaks. Together they caused game changers, a 2 point loss for PAAWIS and a 2 point win for Chosen Gen.

In another heralded skirmish, Familia Narciso, despite Kevin Narciso‘s 26 point blitz, could not hold their lead nor stop Sobey Sultan‘s 26 points (5 threes) as they fell to the Llamados, 66-61.

Chosen Gen and Llamados will go mano a mano for the SIKAT crown, Sunday 19 August at the CDN Sports Centre, 5354 Gatineau ave.
