PIBNA 43 Montreal Wrap Up

Cholo Maguigad wrote PIBNA 43 is finally over, said at the Awards Sunday Sept. 1, the PIBNA might be back in Montreal in 10 plus years. Well said, honest.

Hosting a PIBNA Tournament is a big time operation. It entails sizeable logistics and manpower. Topping these is the fortitude to take on the challenge and the resolve to make it happen and succeed. Venture where Angels fear to tread. True grit. 

PIBNA 43 is now history. It was the fourth PBAM hosting since the turn of the century, 2000 – 2006 – 2012 – 2019. The 43rd was good, not great but certainly not a ho-hum.

Amazing the Event was managed by inexperienced individuals, rookies. They went at it alone, did not scurry for help from the old Establishment, solicited, negotiated and signed documents on their own. Amazingly, if not surprisingly, they pulled out a winner. Their performance muzzled the talkers and stymied the skeptics. No guts, no glory.

Thanks to : Commissioner Jojo Corpuz PBM New York, the City Directors and their Teams for coming over, to dispel talk the PIBNA is on a tail-spin. For an Athletic event hatched up 43 years ago, the PIBNA, the point zero of Filipino Labour Day Weekend, attrition is setting in. Gone are the PIBNA Greats, notably Flor Lim, the Spiritual Leader of PIBNA. 

PIBNA is now on a make-over. It is the advent of the young, with contemporary ideas, attitudes, stamina and Filipino values. 

Thanks to: Cesar and Tess Manuel, Elvie Maximo and Ed Timbal for dishing out Filipino fare ( dinuguan, dinakdakan, bops etc. ) missing long time form PIBNA. Ellen Mayuga and Tess Eriza for the Barbecue, Fely Balles and Marylyn Taruc for the Fiesta Filipino Bakery pastries, Sheryl Valdez and the uKent – Gilas for the Awards Reception. Mrs. Amy Manon-og and the Nursing Staff First-Aid, Noli Padilla and the Security detail. 

Extra Thanks to MC Extraordinaire Ed Vasquez for his impromptu innovations and to Jenny Tanoja for her assist in the Registration. 

The new phase starts with PIBNA 43 MONTREAL, followed by the 44th in Virginia at the Bo Williams Centre, then the 45th in New York. 

PIBNA 43 MONTREAL was a great ride. THANKS TO ALL FOR A FEEL GOOD,  FEEL PROUD PIBNA MOMENT. STAY WELL !
