The PBAM Rebound Vol. 10
STAGE IV COUNTDOWN
by Jake Maguigad
The PBAM received transfusion, a boost and got re-energized April 29th at a Conference held at the Confederation Sports Centre.
A week after its stellar Championships and Awards, April 22nd, 8 PBAM Member Clubs and Associations (GIG, BANNA, AK, PAAWIS, FCAWI, JHO Driving School, RUN CDN, Team BAKERS (Fiesta Filipino Bakery) UKENT and ALL CITY inabsentia, agreed to a shared responsibility in the upkeep of the PBAM, and to preserve the PBAM role to provide Community Sports services as the Borough Partner Organization.
The Super Body, with an aggregate of 40 teams, chose an Executive Council, in lieu of and over Executive Officers with a 7-1 vote. The system mandates all members to provide services and accept duties in return for guaranteed equal rights, votes and privileges in the Management, Administration and Operation of the venerable organization.
The stunning move could not have come at a better time. After 23 years of spoon-feeding by and reliance on dedicated, loyal but now tiring, also aging, volunteers, the timing of the Agreement is fortuitous, almost God sent. Hallelujah.
Standing (L-R) Mike Castro, Frank Baluyot, George Tapia, Boy Dagsaan, Rick Aquino and Romulo Tabing • Sitting (L-R) Robert De Guzman, Jake Maguigad and Peping Tolentino
Inspiringly, outgoing President Mike Castro invited PBAM originals Robert de Guzman, Peping Tolentino, Mark Tabing, Boy Dagsaan and Jorge Tapia to witness the historic moment. And in the event of indecision or a botched Election, would volunteer to come back, pick up the cudgels and carry on.
The notion of these distinguished PBAM vanguards coming back is very laudable but sadly, not feasible. After years away from the PBAM mainstream, a return, even a thought of a return, is not realistic, is impractical, maybe even hazardous to health.
The PBAM of today is youth oriented, consisting of men with vim, vigour and vitality, a contemporary mind-set, the animo and the mettle to offset a quirky modern PBAM membership.
It is high time to let go, take the high road and let this new generation free rein. Let them face their own challenges, to meet them head on, fight a good fight, not run away from it. Make them experience what we went through (ad astra per aspera) to accept the agony of lows and the ecstasy of highs.
If they fumble, let them stand up. All of us did. Have faith, trust them. They won’t fail; will not allow themselves to fail for youth and the Community’s sake.
