2017 – 2018 WINTER LEAGUE TIP OFF

New Phase ….. New Faces

The PBAM Winter League tipped off Saturday, October 28 at LS CDN 9:30 AM.

It was a good and brisk morning to start the Season and the weekend for the basketball loving Filipino Community. And there was an extra bonus and a surprise to boot.

True to his word, rare for a politician, CDN-NDG Mayor Russel Copeman, took time off from a hectic schedule and made a brief stopover as he promised to Jake.

The good Mayor expressed joy seeing uniformed 8 year olds romp, players resplendent in their uniforms strut and exalted the parents and the Community for their devotion to an entertaining community activity.

He congratulated the Executive Council members, reminding them of the pitfalls, trials and certainty of errors which come with the position. He implored them to be brave of heart, have the fortitude to accept the challenge, not run away from it. He also asked the Community to be patient, give these young men the chance and the trust to perform in this historic transition.

Brief, inspiring, much appreciated.

NEW PHASE, NEW FACES…… In 1994, 23 years after the PBAM founding, the PYBCOMS (Philippine Youth Basketball Conference of Montreal and Suburbs) came into being. It could not have come at a better time. The PBAM was floundering and fast. Capitalizing on the focus to and attraction of youth teams, the parents and the community showed their worth. They supported. The PBAM survived the storm. The 9 team 2 Divisional upstart League bailed it out.

That was 23 years ago. The 9 teams has since grown to a robust 54 teams. Time for the next Phase, a retooling, of young fresh faces. A Management adept and more relevant to a very young membership, the youngest age level being 8 years old.

After 23 years, 2017 is the time again. The Community and the players should be thankful, lucky if not blessed to have a group willing to work to continue the epic evolution of this veritable Association. Take it, not chance it. Sure win.

THE EMCEE. At about this time too, 1994, ED VASQUEZ initiated his very own Focus on Youth program. That was 23 years ago and through all those years with Connie, his wife, they never wavered in solid support and continued promotion of Filipino Youth Relations via the sport of Basketball.

Long time coming, about time a person so deserving is awarded the….. PBAM AWARD PAR EXCELLENCE.
